S Jaishankar On China In UNSC : Foreign Minister S Jaishankar In UNSC Slams China Repeat PM Modi Statement On Ukraine War

New York : India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday slammed China for blocking the blacklisting of a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist at the United Nations Security Council. He said some countries offer “impunity” when it comes to “banning some of the world’s most dangerous terrorists”. Speaking at the UNSC, the External Affairs Minister said that politics should never be provided cover to avoid accountability. The External Affairs Minister reiterated PM Modi’s point at the UN Security Council in which he had said that this is not an era of war.

In his address, Jaishankar said that India strongly reiterates the need to end all wars immediately and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy. Clearly as PM Modi said, ‘this cannot be an era of war’. He said the fight against ‘impunity’ is vital to the larger effort to achieve peace and justice. The Security Council should give a clear message in this regard. Politicians should never provide cover to avoid accountability.

‘Ukraine crisis is worrying for the international community’
Jaishankar said that this council will have to consider the signals that we are sending on ‘impunity’ if serious daylight attacks are left out. To ensure credibility, there must be consistency, he added. The Ukraine crisis is a matter of grave concern to the entire international community. The results appear to be troubling. In a globalized world, its effects are being felt even in remote areas.

China rescues Lashkar terrorist
Last week, China at the United Nations blocked a US proposal to designate Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Sajid Mir as an international terrorist. India also supported this proposal. Mir is one of India’s most wanted terrorists and also the main conspirator of the 2008 Mumbai attack. Beijing had blocked a US resolution that would designate Mir as a global terrorist and blacklist him under the UN Security Council’s 1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee.

If a country like India is not a member of UNSC, then it is not good for the council either, Jaishankar kept the country’s strong side

$ 5 million bounty on 26/11 conspirators
Under this proposal supported by India, Mir’s properties would have been confiscated and travel restrictions would have been imposed on him. A $ 5 million bounty has been announced on Mir for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Earlier in New York on the sidelines of the UN Security Council, Jaishankar said that India not being a permanent member of the UN Security Council is not only right “not only for us” but also for this global body and reforms should be done “long ago”. Should have gone.’
