Beijing: China has agreed to return the students trapped in India due to the Corona epidemic, but is not running a direct flight. Because of this, air tickets from Delhi to Beijing are being sold for more than Rs 2 lakh. It is taking 45 hours to 60 hours for commuters to cover a distance of few hours. In such a situation, to increase pressure on China, Indian Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. During this, the topic of return of thousands of Indian students and resumption of direct flights interrupted by the corona virus epidemic was discussed.

Wang Yi recalled his meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar during his visit to New Delhi in March this year. The Indian embassy press statement quoted Wang as saying that the Chinese side attaches importance to the concerns of the Indian side regarding the return of Indian students and expects early progress on this.

The press release said Wang also referred to talks between the two countries on restoring direct flight connectivity. He said, “Ambassador Rawat informed that the concerned agency in India is looking into the matter and we can see the progress in the matter very soon.” China has started allowing “certain” foreign students to return to their home countries in recent months.

In April, after repeated messages from India, China agreed to allow the return of “certain” Indian students and asked the Indian embassy here to collect information on students seeking to return. According to official reports from China, there are more than 23,000 Indian students studying in Chinese colleges. More than 12,000 Indian students have expressed their desire to return and their information has been sent to the Chinese government for further processing.
